Field and Laboratory Experience

 

  • 1997-2000 Co-director of Pueblo San Marcos Archaeological Research Program, Galisteo Basin, New Mexico.

  • 2000 Analysis of Mayan ceramics vessels collected from caves in the Maya Mountains of southern Belize by the Maya Mountains Archaeological Project.

  • 1996 Survey of fortified settlements in the Sigatoka Valley, Viti Levu, Fiji.

  • 1994-1996 Conducted analyses and experiments on ancient sherds and modern replicas of Southwestern plain and corrugated pottery for Ph.D. dissertation.

  • 1992-1996 Crow Canyon Archaeological Center: Designed, conducted, supervised and reported on basic and specialized analyses of artifacts collected during Crow Canyon programs and from other sites in SW Colorado; managed collections, records, and databases; supervised mapping and in-field analysis of artifacts at several sites in SW Colorado; supervised research and museum exhibits by students and interns; produced research design, development, and strategic planning proposals.

  • 1990-1991 Conducted formal, archaeometric, and experimental analyses of Poverty Point ceramic objects from the lower Mississippi Valley.

  • 1992-1996 Crow Canyon Archeological Center: designed and presented several multi-week advanced laboratory and field experiential education courses for adult alumni of Crow Canyon research programs, cultural resource management paraprofessionals, and high school field school students; delivered weekly laboratory research/education programs to adult participants; presented evening educational programs on the nature of archaeological research and Southwestern archaeology for adult participants and school groups; and advised and supervised graduate students and Crow Canyon interns conducting research, exhibit, and curation activities with artifact collections.

  • 1992 Led a group of 15 high school students from Seattle on a two-week tour of archaeological and historical monuments in the Four Corners area of the southwestern United States.

  • 1991-1992 Center for Social Science Computation and Research, University of Washington. Developed and taught several short courses for students and faculty on social science databases, database design and management; using the Internet, LAN management, and digital data archiving. Provided individual consultation and training on the use of computers and databases for quantitative and qualitative social science research; and served as contact person for academic users of US Census data in Washington State.
